COLOURED WATER (brown, reddish, black)

You have just treated your pool with chlorine and the water suddenly turns brown, red or even black.

It is important to treat this quickly to prevent this colouration from adhering to the pool coating and leaving permanent stains.

Les causes possibles

Some well or borehole water has a high load of metal ions, usually iron or manganese.

These metal residues react when in contact with chlorine and begin to oxidise, effectively colouring the water.

There could also be iron and manganese in your mains water (tap water).

Les conseils de traitement

It is essential to react quickly to prevent permanent stains on your pool coating.

  • Start by having the pool water tested by a pool technician to confirm the diagnosis.
  • If necessary, adjust the pH between 7.0 and 7.4 with hth®  pH MINUS MICRO-BALLS to lower the level and hth®  pH PLUS POWDER to increase it.
  • Use the metal sequestering agent hth® METALSTOP to prevent the encrustation of dissolved metals.
  • Perform a static flocculation (with the filtration stopped) using hth®  RAPIDFLOC and leave it to act between 12 and 24 hours.
  • Then use a vacuum broom to remove any deposits that have accumulated at the bottom of the pool and tip the dirt into the sewer.

    Did you know?

Well water is generally harder than your mains water and contains more minerals, sulphu,r and other metals. This can make it very difficult to achieve a correct pool water balance.
